Widows often feel pressure—from others or from within—to “move on.” But moving on can sound like leaving love behind.
And love is not something you throw away.
Moving forward is different. Moving forward honors what was, while accepting that God still has days ahead for you. It does not erase memory. It does not betray love. It simply acknowledges: life continues, and you are still here for a reason.
Moving forward can be very small:
- making one new routine
- saying yes to one invitation
- learning one new skill
- taking care of your health
- serving someone else from your pain
Moving forward is not about replacing. It’s about rebuilding.
And sometimes it requires letting go of guilt. Guilt for laughing. Guilt for enjoying something. Guilt for having a good day. But joy is not disrespect. Joy is evidence that God still brings light—even after darkness.
Scripture
Isaiah 41:10 — “Do not fear, for I am with you…”
Reflection Questions
- Where do I feel stuck—emotionally, spiritually, or practically?
- What does “moving forward” look like for me right now?
- What guilt do I need to release to God?
Prayer
Lord, teach me how to move forward without shame. Help me honor what I had, and also receive what You still have for me. Amen.
With hope,
Joan
