A Letter to the Widow Who Wonders If She’ll Be Okay

If you’re reading this with a tired heart, I want to speak to you gently.

I know there are days you feel like you’re just trying to survive. Days when the quiet is too loud. Days when you are strong for everyone else but crumble alone. Days when you wonder if you will ever feel steady again.

I want you to know something: you are not failing.

You are grieving. You are adjusting. You are learning how to live in a world that changed without your permission.

And the fact that you are still here—still breathing, still praying (even if it’s only a whisper), still trying—means something. It means God has been carrying you more than you realize.

You will not always feel this raw. You will not always feel this shaken. Healing does come—not as a sudden switch, but as a gradual strengthening.

One day you will notice you smiled without guilt. One day you will realize you made it through a hard date. One day you will sense a new steadiness forming. One day you will see that God has been building something in you: depth, tenderness, strength, compassion.

Hold on, dear widow. Not to an outcome. Not to a timeline. Hold on to the Lord. He is faithful.

And yes—you will be okay. Not because life won’t hurt, but because God will be with you in it.

Scripture

Isaiah 41:13 — “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand…”

Reflection Questions

  • What is the hardest fear I carry about the future?
  • What evidence have I seen that God has helped me survive so far?
  • What is one truth I need to hold onto this week?

Prayer

Lord, hold my hand in this season. When fear rises, remind me You are near. When I feel weak, be my strength. And when I can’t see the future, help me trust You with it. Amen.

With hope,
Joan
