Still Loved, Still Useful, Still Here

Widowhood can make you feel invisible.

It can make you feel like your “useful years” are behind you.
Like your purpose ended when your spouse died.
Like your story is now only about what you lost.

But that is not God’s truth.

You are still loved.
Still useful.
Still here.

God did not bring you this far to abandon you now.
Your life still carries meaning.

Your heart still carries gifts—
wisdom, compassion, steadiness, perspective,
a depth of faith forged through hardship.

And maybe your purpose in this season looks different.
Maybe it’s quieter.
Maybe it’s gentler.
Maybe it’s one conversation, one prayer, one act of encouragement at a time.

But it matters.
Your presence matters.

If you are still here, God still has something for you—
whether it’s comforting others,
growing new community,
serving in your congregation,
mentoring younger women,
writing, praying,
or simply living as a testimony of His faithfulness.

You are not done.

Ephesians 2:10 — “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

Reflection Questions

  • Where have I felt invisible or “less than” since my loss?
  • What gifts has God placed in me that still matter?
  • What is one small way I can live with purpose this week?

Prayer

Lord, remind me that my life still has meaning. Show me how You want to use me in this season—at a pace that is healthy and joyful. Thank You that I am still loved and still held. Amen.

With hope,
Joan
